Introducing Wine Finds by R. Field Wine Company. Curated by our resident wine expert, R. Field wine buyer and advanced sommelier Marvin Chang, our collection of wines is unique, exclusive and priced right, so exploring quality wine is accessible to everyone. Whether you’re a wine novice or a connoisseur, we’re sure you’ll discover new favorites amongst our “wine finds.”

Wine Finds is now available at all Foodland and Sack N Save stores statewide. We’re offering a collection of six delicious wines at an amazing value. Keep reading for an explanation of why our current finds are so special.

Chardonnay is a popular wine varietal and yet it can be a challenge for fans of this white wine to find one that’s crisp and balanced for a reasonable price. Until now. Auspicion Chardonnay from California is everything you want and more, with notes of apple, citrus and pear with a smooth, creamy finish. And it’s only $11.99 with your Maika’i Card.

If you’ve ever found yourself wandering in the wine aisle with no clue where to start, Villa Sandi Pinot Grigio is the wine for you. It’s a bright, refreshing Pinot Grigio – a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Every sip is a pop of summer for your taste buds, with flavors of lemon and stone fruit that leave a zesty finish. Friends and family will appreciate your wine selection – and the best part is no one will know you got it for the almost-too-good-to-be-true price of $9.99 with your Maika’i Card.

It’s impossible not to see life with rose-colored glasses when you’re getting a bottle of rosé for the Maika’i price of $11.99. We wanted to include a rosé in our selection of Wine Finds that pairs well with almost any food and is reliably tasty…hence the Band of Roses Rosé. This wine is smooth and dry with notes of vibrant peach, apricot and passion fruit. It’s the perfect excuse to rosé all day!

Consider Casas del Bosque Reserva Pinot Noir your new red wine of choice. It tastes more expensive than it is (only $11.99 with your Maika’i Card) and its quality will surprise and delight you. Indulge in the fragrance and flavors of bright strawberry and red cherry accompanying your candlelit dinner.

Trying to impress the wine enthusiast? You must treat them to a bottle of Rubus Zinfandel. This red wine was created by Master Sommelier Fran Kysela and has merited the reputation of critics’ favorite with numerous 90+ point reviews. Hints of velvety plum and raspberry with a touch of spice make this wine the perfect complement to the cheeses on your charcuterie board. Offered at $11.99 with your Maika’i Card.

We’re bringing you Black’s Station Cabernet Sauvignon from Yolo County, California, just a stone’s throw away from famed Napa Valley. It’s a rich and juicy Cab with dark flavors of blackberry and black cherry. Take home a bottle for just $11.99 with your Maika’i Card.

We hope you’re already beginning to feel like a wine expert, but more than that we hope you’re excited to join us in our celebration of delicious wine. We’ll continue to change out our selection regularly so we can introduce you to a variety of wines that you’ve likely never tried before but will now definitely love. Visit any of our stores to start your journey with Wine Finds. Cheers!

We call them Maika‘i because every single one is excellent in its own way. Here’s what we’re loving right now.

All Things Coconut

From Coconutty Cashews to Coconut Water, Bites and Chips, we’re going coco-nuts for these treats.

Cocoa Truffle Spread

Rich, chocolatey and smooth, we love to spread this on toast or use as a dip for fruit when we’re feeling decadent.

Locally Made Peanut Butters

Each flavor is made with locally-sourced ingredients like Hawaiian honey and Big Island Kona Coffee. Try Crunchy Honey Macadamia Nut for a hearty dose of texture.

Locally Made Pancake Mixes & Syrups

Mornings sure are sweeter with our light and fluffy pancakes and your choice of Lilikoi, Coconut, Guava or Strawberry Syrup.

Organic Tortilla Chips & Salsa

The MVPs of game days, beach days…or any day. The Blue Corn Tortilla Chips and Garlic Chipotle Salsa make a great pair.

Alkaline Water

When ordinary H2O just doesn’t cut it, our Maika`i Alkaline water is here to save the day! Ultra purified and pH balanced with electrolytes to have you feeling pHabulous!

Dried Fruit

Whether you’re packing for a hike or just trying to make it through hump-day, our newly expanded selection of dried fruit can help. We love the dried cherries and blueberries to brighten up yogurt or granola.

Kaki Mochi and Wasabi Peas

Local kine snacks made just for you. We turned up the heat on our wasabi varieties so they’d be spicy like we like them here in Hawaii.

Green Chili Sriracha

Srira cha cha your way to flavor-filled meals. Green jalapeños, tomatillos and garlic make up this special Green Sriracha Sauce. For a heat booster in salsas and dips, try our Red Sriracha Sauce. Made with red jalapeños, red chili, vinegar, garlic and spices.

Sriracha Mini Cornuts

Are you sensing a spice theme here? Whether it’s wasabi, sriracha or just plain ‘ol HOT, we love a little kick here at Foodland, and these cornuts meet that need in bite-sized snack form.

Keeping things exciting and tasty is what we’re all about! I am happy to introduce the newest products being offered in our stores.

In the snacks & beverages category we have the following exciting items- just in time for summer celebrating!

Original New York Seltzer

[img_assist|nid=149283|title=|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=758|height=504]

NY Seltzer made a comeback this summer and Foodland was proud to be the first store in Hawaii to carry it! Drink up all 6 flavors: Root Beer, Peach, Black Cherry, Raspberry, Vanilla Cream and Lemon Lime.

POP! The Original Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce Potato Chips

[img_assist|nid=149284|title=|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=640|height=640]
Yes you read that right – Sriracha potato chips! These chips have the most amazingly yummy and spicy Sriracha flavor that make them deliciously addicting. You better stock up!

New Lays Flavors Potato Chips

[img_assist|nid=149287|title=|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=640|height=640]
These new flavor chips hit our store shelves at the end of July and they’ve been flying off them ever since. This year’s flavors are Greektown Gyro, New York Reuben, Southern Biscuits and Gravy, and Wavy West Coast Truffle Fries. Grab them in big or small bags and make it easy to sample the flavors all at once!

Sriracha Hot Chili Spice

[img_assist|nid=149288|title=|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=640|height=640]
Apparently we’re infatuated with Sriracha and along with the chips we now offer the spice. Great for chili, tacos, popcorn and anything that you’d like to give a little “kick”! The possibilities are endless so make sure to let us know what you put it on!

Brownie Batter Oreos

[img_assist|nid=149289|title=|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=642|height=640]
If you’re looking for a sweet, decadent and amazing treat then look no further but to our newest cookie! The Brownie Batter Oreo’s are an insane chocolate experience that people are saying “taste exactly like their name”. Try some today but hurry – they’re only available for a short time.

For You, My Precious… The Trilogy has begun in all Foodland stores! The Hobbit Beer series is here!

[img_assist|nid=149290|title=|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=758|height=521]

  • Gollum Precious Pil– is as tough and determined as Gollum himself. It’s been said that this beer will extend your life (at least we’d like to think so).
  • Smaug Stout – contains pronounced notes of coffee and chocolate balanced with Northwest Hops and a touch of heat. This produces an exceptional imperial stout that is a must try.
  • Bolg Belgian Tripel – a flavorful strong Belgium Tripel. Some said it refined an otherwise gruesome character. We don’t know for sure, but we think this smooth Tripel is sure to please.

Enjoy and I’ll be back soon to tell you about our next round of new products!

Sneak peek for next time: Ba-le Japan Bread in these new yummy flavors: Guava, Taro, Sweet & Raisin!

Beautiful Locally Grown Buddha's Hand https://foodland.com/blog/beautiful-locally-grown-buddhas-hand/ Mon, 15 Jul 2013 10:00:00 +0000 https://foodland.com/beautiful-locally-grown-buddhas-hand/ Read More

Buddha’s Hand is a uniquely shaped and very fragrant citrus fruit grown locally here on Maui at Howard’s Nursery. More well known in China and Japan for perfuming rooms and personal items such as clothing, this fruit is also given as a religious offering in Buddhist temples. According to tradition, Buddha prefers the “fingers” of the fruit to be in a position where they resemble a closed rather than open hand, as closed hands symbolize to Buddha the act of prayer.

The peel of the Buddah’s Hand can be candied and is often used for its zest. The inner white pith is not bitter as is usually the case with other citrus fruits, so the fingers may be cut off and then longitudinally sliced, peel, pith, and used in salads or scattered over cooked foods such as fish.

Look for this gorgeous fruit at Foodland Farms Aina Haina, Foodland Kailua and Foodland Kapolei in limited quantities, while supplies last.

Walla Walla Sweet Onions at Foodland! https://foodland.com/blog/walla-walla-sweet-onions-at-foodland/ Tue, 09 Jul 2013 10:00:00 +0000 https://foodland.com/walla-walla-sweet-onions-at-foodland/ Read More

It’s that time of year for Walla Walla Sweet Onions! You need to get these sweet onions while we have them, as the season is short and we’ll only have them through early September. Walla Walla Sweet Onions have a thin golden paper skin and creamy sweet insides.

They are best described as an onion so sweet, it can be peeled and eaten raw like an apple. They’re also perfect to slice and put on top of a burger. Here are a couple yummy recipes featuring these delicious onions that we’d like to share with you:

Walla Walla Sweet Onion Flower

2 Walla Walla Sweet Onions
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
non-stick vegetable cook spray

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Lightly grease a large baking pan. Peel onions, cut bottom level but leave core intact. To make flower design, cut onion from top toward bottom as if you were going to cut it in half, stopping 1/2 inch from bottom. Repeat five times in different sections of the onion to create “petals.” Carefully loosen petals by rapping the onion lightly on the work surface. Place flour, salt, pepper, oregano, paprika and mustard in small bag. Spray petals with cooking spray. Put one of the onions in the bag and gently shake to coat. Remove the onion and pat off the excess flour mixture. Place in prepared pan and repeat with second onion. Spray coated onions once again with cooking spray to aid in browning. Bake for 35-40 minutes until tender. Serve hot.

Walla Walla Sweet Onion Cucumber and Tomato Salad

4 medium tomatoes, each cut into 8 wedges
2 medium cucumbers, thinly sliced
1 medium Walla Walla Sweet Onion, cut into wedges
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/4 pound goat cheese

In a large glass serving bowl, combine tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. Mix together vinegar, olive oil, dill and parsley. Season to taste. Toss vinegar-oil mixture over vegetables. Cover. Refrigerate one hour to blend flavors. Toss again just before serving and blend in goat cheese.
